Aerotropolis

WHAT IS AN AEROTROPOLIS?

Definition – an aerotropolis is a type of urban form comprising aviation intense business and related enterprises.  It is similar in form and function to a traditional metropolis, where there is a central city core and its commuter-linked suburbs. An aerotropolis has an airport city as its core and is surrounded by clusters of aviation related enterprise.

Spatial development framework planning is about arranging land uses in space, both at the strategic and local levels. This 2009/2010 comprehensive review of the Ekurhuleni Spatial Development Framework is informed by new arrangements for strategic planning introduced at all three tiers of government including Ekurhuleni. At national level is the planning commission (NPC), and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) introduced after the 2009 General Election. At provincial tier came a progressive directive that seeks to introduce a city region.
