EMM Garden Competition Rules - 2009

  1. The competition is open to all residents of EMM except for employees of Metro Parks, organizers of the competition and its sponsors.
  2. No prizes will be awarded to entrants with outstanding  Water and Electricity accounts.
  3. Entry forms will be available from CCC offices, libraries, clinics, Metro Parks cemeteries and regional parks offices and nurseries in Ekurhuleni as well as on the Garden Competition website.
  4. Entry Forms must be completed in full:
    1. Entrants full name (name & surname) must appear on the entry form in block letters (for banking purposes);
    2. Entrants ID number must appear on the entry form together with a copy of the entrants ID;
    3. Water and Lights Account Number must be provided.
  5. Entrants must provide at least two (2) postcard sized coloured photographs of the garden entered for the competition which will be used in the elimination process of judging. Each photograph must have the entrants contact details clearly printed on the reverse of the photograph.
  6. Entries will be accepted in the following eight categories:
    1. Small Gardens  (< 500 square metres);
    2. Medium Gardens  (500 to 1500 square metres);
    3. Large Gardens  (>1500 square metres);
    4. Industrial or Business Gardens;
    5. School Gardens;
    6. Food Gardens;
    7. Pavement Gardens.
  7. Gardens will be judged on:
    1. Design and Layout;
    2. Plant Choice;
    3. Maintenance;
    4. Aspects of Water Wise Gardening.
  8. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  9. Litigation against the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality its employees, agents, organizers of the competition or sponsors is prohibited.
  10. Prizes will be awarded to suitably qualifying gardens in each category in each CCC.
  11. Winning gardens in each category in the CCC will be adjudicated to determine the best garden in a category for Ekurhuleni.
  12. Winning Gardens (1st, 2nd and 3rd) will receive a cash prize sponsored by EMM.
  13. Certificates will also be awarded to winning gardens.
  14. Consolation prizes provided by our sponsors (to the value of R 60,000) will be awarded to gardens of special merit.
  15. Entrants must allow the organizers of the EMM Garden Competition access to their garden for judging purposes and to allow photographs to be taken which may be placed on the EMM website for the garden competition and in the local press.
