Health and Social Development political head, Clr Khosi Maluleke, cut her political teeth in 1987 and since then she has played different roles in society as an activist. In 1999 she was a Deputy Chairperson of the SACP branch in Katlehong and in 2000 elected as the Chairperson of the SACP, who also served in the party district committee around 2003. Clr Maluleke has served as an ex-officio member in the ANC Regional Executive Committee. On 5 December 2000 she was elected as a PR councillor serving in the portfolio of Roads, Transport and Civil Works. She was also Chairperson of the committee representing disabled people in the transport sector, and also GALA (SALGA) Roads and Transport sub-committee Chairperson. In 2001, this councillor was appointed MMC for Municipal Infrastructure – a very challenging department, but which has provided her with a lot of experience in understanding issues related to service delivery. While serving in that capacity she was also Chairperson of the Erwat board of directors and chaired other committees of the SALGA working group sub-committee. In 2006 she was appointed MMC for the Health portfolio which required of her to provide health care and ensure that there are facilities across all sectors of society, and to reduce the high levels of poverty, malnutrition and other related diseases During July 2008, Clr Malulele was again reappointed as an MMC, but this time with the Environmental Development Department, a year later she was appointed as MMC for Health.
