Clr Queen Duba’s political journey began in 1985 during her student years as a trainee teacher at the then Transvaal College of Education. On completing her studies she became a teacher at Landulwazi High School and later joined Relatadima Primary School as a maths and science teacher. She holds a Teachers Diploma, BA (Psychology), Certificate in Councillor Development Programme, Certificate in Municipal Management Programme did an Executive Leadership Programme with the University of Pretoria. This new Human Settlement Member of the Mayor Committee became an active member of NEUSA (New Educators Union of South Africa). In 1987 she was elected as an executive committee member of the Kathorus NEUSA. When SADTU was formed, she became Treasurer in the Kathorus area. This councillor was elected Chairperson of the ANC Youth League in the Thokoza branch, is a founding member of the Thokoza Youth Development Council and also participated in the Thokoza Peace Processes during the 90s. In 1990 Clr Duba was elected treasurer of the then ANC East Rand Sub Region and later served as a regional Executive Committee Member until 2002. She was elected a councillor in the Alberton Town Council in 1995 and chaired the Human Resources and Labour Relations Committee. Clr Duba is one of the founding members of GALA (Gauteng Association of Local Government Authorities Bargaining Council) and SALGA National Bargaining Council. She has served as an executive committee member of the training board, which later became LGSETA, from 1997-2000. She is a SALGA trainer. After the amalgamation of the nine erstwhile towns that now form Ekurhuleni, she was elected a PR councillor in 2000 and served as a party whip on the City Development Portfolio, and also served on the Local Labour Forum. In 2006 she was again elected as a PR councillor serving as the party’s Whip in the Corporate Services portfolio, in 2007 she was elected ANC Regional Deputy Secretary, and appointed MMC for Corporate Services in 2008. She served as chairperson of the Employment Equity and was a member of the steering committee of the Multi Party Caucus. Following the 2011 elections she has been appointed the MMC for Human Settlements.
