Clr Vuyelwa Mabena owes her political activism to a friend who in the late 70s recruited her to the underground structures of the African National Congress. The MMC for Environmental Development is currently studying towards her BA Degree with Unisa majoring in Community Development. She has been a councillor since the establishment of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in 2000 and has participated in various committees such as health and social development and sports, recreation, arts and culture. Clr Mabena holds various certificates after completing an Executive Leadership Municipal Development programme, Community Facilitation programme for councillors, and Municipal Finance Management Programme including Waste Management Training Course for local authorities.
