MMC Pelisa Nkunjana has been a councillor since 2006. She has served in the local economic development and infrastructure services committees as well as being multiparty caucus. Her qualifications post matric include certificates in Business Administration, Community Facilitation and Construction. In addition she holds national certificates in Local Government from the University of Pretoria and Municipal Government from the University of Johannesburg. Nkunjana has successfully achieved diplomas in Municipal Finance and Management from Wits Business School, Advanced Management from the Management College of Southern Africa and is currently studying towards her degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from UNISA. On the political front her career includes Secretary of the SRC at Dalisile Secondary School from 1995 - 1997, ANCYL Branch Secretary Ex-Officio for Ward 66, as well as ANCYL Regional Deputy Secretary, ANCYL Provincial Deputy Secretary for the Gauteng Province, National Executive Committee Member of ANCYL since 2011. In addition this MMC has been Ekurhuleni Regional Membership Officer and Administrator for ANCYL, ANCWL, COSAS, MKMVA and Veterans League from 2003 – 2007. She has held positions of responsibility in government structures such as the Youth Sector representative for Ward 65 Ward Committee, was Ward Councillor for Ward 66, where she was also Ex officio of the ANC Branch Executive Committee from 2006 – 2011, served on the portfolios of LED, Infrastructure Services and Roads and Transport of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. She also served as Chairperson of the ANC Youth Caucus and Multiparty Youth Caucus from 2006 – 2009. Over and above this, she has held positions in NGOs including founder and Secretary of Kuyasa Youth Foundation, Regional Chairperson of South African Youth Council, Ekurhuleni, and Secretary of Community Work Programme, Etwatwa – a position she is still in.
