Alberton resident Joe Maleme is a first time councillor and wants to work hand-in-hand with the community and the Metro to achieve the needs of the community, through bringing service delivery to the people. He wants to focus on the lot of the people, through housing issues, drug abuse among the youth, child abuse as well as crime. Clr Maleme started out as an ANC volunteer in 1992, which started his involvement in politics and he participated in community work as well as a NUMSA member in the mines and SATAWA shop steward in the security industry.
