Serving on community structures since 1984 is how Martha Mokoena became involved in politics. She joined a union while at work and served as shop steward from 1982 to 2000. In 1995 this councillor served as a councillor during the transitional local council as well as being councillor with the Ekurhuleni Metro from 2006 – 2011. While a councillor she served on the sport, recreation, arts and culture committee (1005-1999) and was on the buying and tender committee. From 2006- 2011 she served on the economic development committee. “I would like to serve my community and to implement the mandate of the organization,” she lists as her aim during her term of office. In addition Clr Mokoena wants to get more understanding of government issues and to e able to take it and assist the community.
