Services at the brakpan licensing centre affected
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality appeals to patrons of the Brakpan Licensing Centre to exercise patience as the centre is operating under limited capacity following a robbery.
Four specialised Live Scanning Unit (LCU) computers, which are used for eye testing, were stolen in the break in which took place in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to Justice Mohale, spokesperson of the Metro, the centre is currently making use of one machine, and another two will be connected before the end of the week to minimise the effects of the robbery.
“Two machines which were in storage will replace the stolen equipment; however, in the meantime services rendered will be limited. Only bookings for learners’ licences and drivers’ licence renewals will be processed,” he said adding that only minimum Professional Driving Permits will be issued. Services not involving eye testing will continue as usual.
The Metro also wishes to apologise for having turned back some customers this yesterday due to an offline IT system.
