Remember we are the home of soccer greats like Pollen Ndlanya, Teenage Dladla, Scara Ngobese, Jabu Mahlangu, Phil ‘Ndoda’ Venter, Jimmy Mahlangu and many others. Over the years our star has been falling in as far as producing such stars and what was even more confusing is that with a quarter of Gauteng’s population Ekurhuleni had not team in the PSL,” explains mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini.

Introduction and Background of Tourism Conference

A research study undertaken with several Ekurhuleni based industry players revealed a lack of geological position of Ekurhuleni as a standalone destination as threat for tourism.  It also revealed a limited understanding of the role of the Tourism Division when it comes to tourism development and marketing.

The study also concluded that the lack of a Tourism Strategy, limited tourism budget for the promotion of the destination and insignificant tourism marketing activities that are undertaken in an ad-hoc manner are not contributing to a specific strategic goal.

Ekurhuleni as a region has not sufficiently leveraged on the potential of the tourism sector, partly due to a lack of tourism statistics and information that is specific to Ekurhuleni which means that there is limited understanding of the region’s source market; specialist market segments and the sectors contribution to the regional economy and job creation.
