The City of Ekurhuleni celebrated Christmas in style with the MMC for Health and Social Development, Cllr Charlotte Zitha presenting gift hampers to newborn babies born on Christmas Day, Saturday, 25 December.

The MMC together with the department's officials presented 35 gift hampers at different health facilities to welcome the newest citizens of the city.

Congratulating the mothers on the arrival of their bundles of joy, the MMC said, “Today is indeed a very special day, and we are happy to celebrate the arrival of your baby with you.

We do not only come with gifts but we are also here to give you words of encouragement to empower you as mothers to care for yourselves and the little ones.”

The MMC encouraged the new mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for six months, and to also adhere to the scheduled Road to Health Charts that guide the mothers on when they should visit health facilities to immunise their children.

MMC Zitha will again on Saturday, 1 January visit identified facilities to present gifts to babies born on New Year’s Day.
