The City of Ekurhuleni seeks to honour OR Tambo, who was a lover of choral music, with workshops for the development and nurturing of talent in choral music, conducting and performance.

To this end, the City hosts a two-day workshop and a feast of choral music showcasing event including Isicathamiya choral songs on Saturday, 30 October 2021, at OR Tambo Precinct Amphitheatre in Wattville. This is in partnership with Sabelani Music Initiative, founded in April 2019 by Joe Khanye, Anne Jensen and Lt Palesa Luzipo. This platform will revive and nurture the wealth of talented singers, conductors and composers in communities.

Sabelani Music Initiative will identify three to six groups that they have been training over the past two years in all three regions of the Ekurhuleni to be given an opportunity to perform during the commemoration of OR Tambo. These groups will be among those to entertain at the end of the year 2021 (Christmas Carols) at OR Tambo Precinct Amphitheatre at the date to be announced.

Already the selected groups are participating in a two-day seminar that looks at repertoire selection, gesture, score study, rehearsal techniques and presentation. Saturday sees them perform.

Entrance is free, but you must RSVP. Picnic baskets are welcome, but note that no alcohol is allowed. All COVD-19 regulations will be adhered to.
