It has been three weeks since the transformer at Thokoza substation was on fire leaving customers connected to it without electricity.
The City has been working around the clock to restore power and repair damaged equipment at the substation.
As from Monday, 27 July, the 20 MVA transformer will undergoing a number of load tests. One set of 6.6 kV side panels is also complete and tested. In addition, cables have been laid and are part of testing with the transformer.
Restoration of customers will happen in stages. Priority is given to all areas that have been normalised – this is where bypassed meters have been removed and new prepaid meters installed.
