Funerals During COVID-19 Lockdown
Funerals will still be allowed to take place during the COVID-19 lockdown, capped at 50 mourners per funeral and no night vigils.
This is in terms of the regulations to the Disaster Management Act, gazetted on 25 March 2020, and amended on 27 March. As changes can be made as the need arises, please ensure you have the latest version of these regulations at all times.
In short, the new regulations state:
- No more than 50 mourners – including minister, family, mourners and undertakers
- No night vigils
- All churches are closed and may only be used to conduct a funeral service
- Normal requirements are still applicable to hold a funeral, as well as additional requirement in light of the lockdown.
- Applicable forms to be completed in order for the funeral to take place – please see the act regulations for details and for the form.
