SOCA-2020

Under the theme of '20 Years of a Responsive and Modern Public Service Partner That Fosters Change Towards Building a Better Ekurhuleni', Executive Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina described his State of the City Address as capturing 'most succinctly our aspirations and serves as a reminder of our commitments to the people of this dynamic City'.

He delivered the address on Wednesday, 18 March, in the OR Tambo Government Precinct in Germiston to councillors and media – the speech being live streamed on various platforms. This amidst the Coronavirus (Covid-19), which has gripped not only the country, but the world. Interventions and directive prescribed by President Cyril Rampahosa, who declared a national state of disaster, were strictly adhered to for the State of the City Address, with the 224 councillors being split into three different venues to ensure no groups of more than 100 people.

"Our people mandated us to provide them with decent housing, proper access to roads and quality services; they asked us to tackle corruption and expand on health care services, among othes," said Mayor Masina, expanding that 'the people further appealed to us to, among others, ensure that we make informal settlements more liveable so that we restore human dignity.

"We heard this mandate and came up with a 'ProPoor' programme aimed at fast-tracking and sustaining service delivery."
