New 500 Metro Police Recruits are in Training
Cadets at the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) training academy resumed training on 3 August.
The academy reopened its gates to 500 cadets who missed more than four months of training to be fully-fledged Metro police officers due to COVID-19 lockdown that came into effect in March this year.
According to EMPD Acting Chief Superintended Kobeli Mokheseng, to ensure that COVID-19 regulations are followed cadets are divided into two groups, one attending in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Screening, hand sanitising and wearing of mask is the order of the day.
Regarding the pass out of cadets who would prove to be worthy to put on the EMPD uniform, it will not take place this year.
“If we manage to completed our programme on time the pass out will take place either in July or August 2021,” said Mokheseng. He added the exact date for the pass out of deserving cadets mainly depends on the calendar of management and the executive leadership of the City.
