CITY EMPLOYEE DIES AFTER ROAD ACCIDENT WHILE ON WASTE COLLECTION DUTIES

The City of Ekurhuleni employee died this morning after being hit by a minibus taxi on Concord East Road in Bedfordview.

The employee is part of the Environment and Waste Management Services Department and was performing waste collection duties when he became a victim of a road accident.

“This is a very sad incident and the city’s sincere condolences go to his family and loved ones. We further appeal to motorists to be extra careful and be on the lookout for these essential service workers as they continue to render this critical service,” the city’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said.

The city has organized psychosocial services for the colleagues of the deceased employee.

The waste collection backlog in the area resulting from the accident will be attended to tomorrow, 10 January 2024.
