WOMEN ENCOURAGED TO SELF-EXAMINE FOR BREAST CANCER
October is breast cancer awareness month according to the health calendar of events. This year’s theme is ‘Keeping Her in the Picture’ a message aimed at supporting women who are affected and impacted by breast cancer.
According to statistics, the prevalence of breast cancer among South Africans is increasing, and it is one of the most common cancers among women. It has also been determined that it is most prevalent among White and Asian women, and the second among African and Coloured women.
South African women overall have a one in nine chance or possibility of getting breast cancer.
As such, the City calls all women to come for regular screenings for various cancers by visiting any of the City’s clinics. Qualified professionals are on hand to assist with detecting lumps or any abnormalities in breasts. Operating hours for clinics are 08h00 to 16h30 from Monday to Friday.
There is no need to make an appointment.
