VACANCIES IN THE CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
Applications are hereby invited for ten appointments to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s Civilian Oversight Committee and one Ad Hoc Committee Member responsible for Community Police Forum Liaison.
Functions of the Committee: • At the request of Council, advising Council on matters relating to the Municipal Police, Traffic Services and Law Enforcement Departments • Advising the City Manager with regard to the performance of his functions in respect of the City’s three policing departments • Performing such functions as the members of the Executive Council of Province, Council, or City Manager, may consider necessary, or expedient to ensure civilian oversight of the City’s three policing departments • Promoting accountability and transparency in the City’s three policing departments.
• Monitoring the implementation of policy and directives issued by the City Manager, and reporting to Council, or the City Manager thereon • Performing such functions as may be assigned to the Committee by Council or the City Manager • Evaluating the functioning of the City’s three policing departments and reporting to Council, or the City Manager thereon.
Profile of Applicants: • A relevant diploma or degree in the field of crime prevention, policing, public administration, law or related studies • Persons with a research capacity enabling them to inform crime prevention and law enforcement initiatives within the City, e.g. prominent researchers at academic institutions and/or institutes for security and related studies • Persons who have been involved in rehabilitation of criminals and the prevention of crime • Ordinary citizens of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, who have consistently displayed a keen interest in crime prevention and/or law activities within the City.
