"Through education we can take the City of Ekurhuleni to global heights. A university is no longer a matter for discussion, it's a developmental imperative for the City's future and that of the country." – Executive Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina addressing business in June this year.
One of the major strategic goals for the current administration is to initiate a process of building a university in the City. It has an intense manufacturing, logistics and industrial sector, which all require skills in order to fast track economic growth and expand opportunities.
The City is proud to announce that the process of eventually realising the vision of a university has unfolded. In line with ensuring that all stakeholders are engaged, the City of Ekurhuleni hosts the University Symposium on Thursday, 21 September, which will allow stakeholders from government, business and youth to not only exchange ideas on the process, but also resolve on a way forward.
The symposium will be addressed by Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Youth Hon. Buti Manamela, MEC of Basic Education in Gauteng Hon. Panyaza Lesufi, invited vice chancellors of universities, as well as youth leaders. The session for the day will be facilitated by Ayanda Allie Payne of ENCA.
