Operations at the Weltevreden landfill site in Brakpan have been halted due to escalating dangerous working conditions resulting from illegal mining activities and clashes between illegal miners and waste reclaimers. The city has closed the landfill site to protect employees and customers from potential harm. The site will remain closed indefinitely until the environment
