DEBT RELIEF AND INCENTIVE SCHEME
REVISED DEBT RELIEF AND INCENTIVE SCHEME WILL PROVIDE MUCH NEEDED FINANCIAL AID TO QUALIFYING RESIDENTS
The Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Ald. Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, announced the approval of the revised Debt Relief and Incentive Scheme at the ordinary Council Meeting held on Thursday, 29 August 2024, in Germiston.
“This policy revision is a testament to our commitment to the residents of Ekurhuleni. We recognise the financial hardships that many residents are experiencing, and this scheme is our way of providing meaningful relief without compromising the city’s financial health. We encourage all eligible households and businesses to take full advantage of this opportunity and work with us to ensure a financially sustainable future for our city,” said Executive Mayor Xhakaza.
RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES WITH VALUE LESS THAN R 3 000 000
- Residential category of property with value limit of R 3 000 000 as per general valuation roll.
- Application based.
- Arrear debt +12 months
- DEBT RESTRUCTURING –
- +12 months Debt – 70% Initial Write-off
- +12 Months remaining debt (30%) – 36 months arrangement written off incrementally over period of 36 months.
- Remaining Debt excluding current account – 36 months normal arrangement.
RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES WITH VALUE MORE THAN R 3 000 000
- Residential category of property with value limit of more than R 3 000 000 as per general valuation roll.
- Application based.
- Arrear debt +12 months.
- DEBT RESTRUCTURING –
- +12 months INTEREST Debt – 100% Incremental write-off over period of 12 months.
- Remaining Debt excluding current account – 36 months normal debt repayment arrangement.
BUSINESS AND OTHER CATEGORIES OF PROPERTIES
- Business, Industrial or any non-Residential category of property as per general valuation roll.
- Application based.
- Arrear debt +12 months.
- DEBT RESTRUCTURING –
- +12 months INTEREST Debt – 100% Incremental write-off over period of 12 months.
- Remaining Debt excluding current account – 36 months normal debt repayment arrangement.
RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS, PUBLIC BENEFIT AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
- Approved rebate or exclusion granted to property owner in terms of council approved Property Rates policy.
- Application based.
- Arrear debt +12 months
- DEBT RESTRUCTURING –
- +12 months Debt – 70% Initial Write-off
- +12 Months remaining debt (30%) – 36 months arrangement written off incrementally over period of 36 months.
- Remaining Debt excluding current account – 36 months normal arrangement.
METER READING INCENTIVE
Rand value credit of R 240.00 for account holders who submit conventional water and electricity meter reading within open reading period through CoE meter reading application for continuous period of 12 months.
BRIDGED, TAMPERED OR BY-PASSED METER WAIVER
Three-month fines and penalties waiver period, during which households with illegal connections can regularize their status. Residents must approach the city to be legally connected.
PAYMENT INCENTIVE
Payment incentive of 2% to all customers effecting payment of account on or before due date for period of 12 consecutive months.
SCHEME VALID UNTIL 30 JUNE 2026.
