CITY WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK TO ATTEND TO WASTE REMOVAL BACKLOG
The City of Ekurhuleni understands that customers are experiencing challenges with waste removal services, and we want to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the backlog. We are working tirelessly to address this issue, which has been compounded by the closure of multiple landfill sites.
The city would like to update our customers that we are actively engaging with stakeholders to expedite the reopening of these sites. However, in the meantime, we are taking action to clear mini-dumpsites and transfer stations to alleviate the pressure on the Platkop landfill site, which is currently the only operational site.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue. From Saturday, the Rooikraal landfill site will begin operating at a limited capacity, which we hope will further ease the pressure on Platkop. We have advanced plans to fast-track the reopening of the affected facilities to attend to the city-wide waste removal backlog over the weekend,” said MMC for Environmental Resources and Waste Management, Cllr Brandon Pretorius.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. The City remains committed to providing customers with timely and efficient waste removal services.
