DON’T BECOME A VICTIM! Beware of TENDER SCAMS doing the rounds – 260ℓ and 770ℓ wheelie bins and electrical multi-meters.
SCAM ALERT!
Please be aware of the following scams that have already ripped off a number of people of thousands of rands.
In one of the tender scams circulating unsuspecting companies are requested to deliver 260ℓ wheelie bins, while in another the request is for the supply and delivery of 80 units of a 770ℓ wheeled bin over a period of 24 months.
Companies are contacted individually, usually through email, where the details of the fake tender are sent through. Correspondence is done on documents that bear the City of Ekurhuleni logo, and in some cases an order number/purchase order is provided supposedly from the City. Delivery address for the bins is 47 Van Buuren Road, Bedfordview.
The City urges companies and individuals to be very vigilant and to check on the website (www.ekurhuleni.gov.za) to see if such a tender exists. Also, take note of the following on the documents:
- The name Ekurhuleni Municipality is incorrect, it is City of Ekurhuleni;
- Landlines in the City have the 999 prefix;
- The email address for staff is XXXX (person’s name)@ekurhuleni.gov.za and not XXX@ekurhuleni-gov.org or any other variation;
- The tender office of the City is NOT situated at 47 Van Buuren Road, Bedfordview.
Please be vigilant and to confirm if quotations or tenders are authentic, contact details are available on the City’s website or bidders can contact Hannes.vSchalkwyk@ekurhuleni.gov.za or Siphokazi.Xokozela@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
Other scams under the pretense of the City of Ekurhuleni include asking for the supply and delivery of electrical Compact True-RMS multi-meters, with high current clamp-on amp meter measurement up to 2000 A.
