New Bus Fare Comes Into Effect

A single trip on the Ekurhuleni municipal bus will cost 50 cent more, as per the new budget passed by Council on 23 May 2019, which came into effect on 1 July.

Commuters using municipal buses are encouraged to use bus coupons, which are cheaper compared to cash payments and are convenient to the customers.

In the new tariff structure as approved by Council, ten coupons now cost R130.00, an increase of R5,00 from the previous fare of R125.00. A single trip costs R13.00, which is an increase of 50 cents from the previous fare of R12.50.

Cash trips cost R25.00 per trip.

“As the City, we are cognisant of the current financial difficulty faced by many of our customer, therefore, the minimal, below inflation fare increase was determined with the understanding that users of public transport are financially hard-pressed. We therefore urge commuters across the City to consider purchasing bus coupons to benefit from the related savings and convenience,” Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Transport Planning Cllr Phelisa Nkunjana.
