City Extends It Appreciation on Charitable Efforts

The City handed over a certificate of appreciation to the Church of Scientology for their contribution in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Handing over the certificate during an appreciation event on Tuesday, 10 February, Head of Department for Real Estate Manyane Chidi thanked the Church of Scientology for sterilising Ekurhuleni premises.

“The City appreciates the work of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of South Africa since the country went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Chidi.

Leader of the Church of Scientology Luc Dubois received the certificate saying, “We were honoured to receive such a beautiful letter of recognition from the City of Ekurhuleni. Such accolades bring so much joy and pride to our volunteers and it is a source of inspiration that they draw on to do even more.”

Dubois mentioned that the partnership between the church and the City started when the pandemic started.

“Almost a year on, we are still working together in our quest to keep the people of Ekurhuleni safe,” he said.

He explained that since the pandemic started they have sanitised municipal buildings, government provincial offices, emergency services facilities, clinics and libraries in the City.

“We have 25 volunteer ministers dedicated to the City and we are currently giving an average of 750 hours of volunteer work per week where we sanitise an average of 250 different locations,” he said.

The Church of Scientology Volunteer Minister’s programme is a religious social service created in the mid-1970schurch of scient. It constitutes one of the largest and most visible international independent relief forces.
