Community Empowerment

Don’t Abuse City Resources

Municipal water structures such as water meters, fire hydrants, water tanks and reservoirs are there so that the municipality can supply reliable clean and quality water to its communities.

Anyone caught tampering with municipal property will be in hot water and could very well face a steep fine or arrest, or both.

Drainage systems

Note that drainage pipes and manholes are the property of the municipality and the following is not allowed:

  • covering municipal drainage systems;
  • covering a manhole;
  • Building or erecting a permanent structure of any kind on top of municipal servitudes.

All buildings or permanent structures to be built on land that falls within the jurisdiction of the municipality must first be approved by the City Planning Department. Building plans can be submitted at the City Planning offices based at all customer care centres.

Non-compliance may lead to demolition or tearing down of a building.
