Ekurhuleni Youth Explore E-Governance Opportunities
The City of Ekurhuleni kicked off Youth Month on a high by participating in the MEC for Finance and e-Governance Nkomo Nomantu Ralehoko’s outreach roadshow which provided a window of opportunities for young people looking to develop and gain ICT skills in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The roadshow which took place at the Sam Ntulli Sports Centre in Thokoza was the perfect curtain raiser for the Youth Month which is celebrated in the country throughout June.
“Today’s initiative is tied well with Youth Month as a way to encourage the youth to do good work in the community and to get exposure and intel on opportunities that exist,” said the MEC.
Makgapule from Eden Park Secondary school was amongst the pupils who attended the outreach roadshow and was pleads to have been exposed to a new world of technology.
“I really came her to register for ICT skills programmes and little did I know that I will leave with so much wealth of information. There is really so much to explore in this sector that I did not know about, “she said.
Reflecting on the historical industrial migration form manual labour to machines, followed by computers and now the world of robotics is taking over in what is called “Fourth Industrial Revolution” commonly referred to as 4IR. The roadshow proved to be a much needed programme for the City’s young people as they were presented with skills information on how to upskill themselves and break into the digital community.
The City’s young people were given the platform to engage industry leaders in the e-Governance sector and partners who inducted the young people on the importance of being prepared for the upcoming 4IR.
Various departments had exhibited their innovations and offered information and services on the following:
- Demonstrate ICT Business opportunities
- ICT skills opportunities and awareness
- Advocacy of e-Services
- Registering SMMEs on the CSD
- Promoting P-Card and e-Invoicing
- ICT skills opportunities
- e-Services
