Hope for Women on the Streets
Through the Women, Children and People with Disabilities Directorate in the office of the Executive Mayor and together with Brave to Love the City handed over Christmas gifts to destitute women living on the streets of Kempton Park on Monday, 7 December 2020.
Head of the Directorate Lindiwe Khonjelwayo said the aim of the visit was to revive family values in the women who live and work on the streets.
“Some of these women lost their formal employment due to Covid-19 and that led to them living and working on the streets of the City. We cannot treat them as if they are not women due to the circumstances they find themselves in.
“With these gesture we are trying to restore their dignity and rekindle the family responsibility that they have as women. We hope from here they will remember their families and heal so that they will be integrated with their families,” she said.
She said that the City and its stakeholders would continue to monitor the streets of the town in the City and help those women who want to be re-united with their families.
