Land Owners Can Benefit Outdoor Advertising

Landowners with strategically positioned properties in the City of Ekurhuleni can rent out spaces to billboard owners.

The billboard owner can make application to erect the signage to the City, provided there is consent from the landowner.

According to the City’s Billboard and the Display of Advertisement Bylaw if you wants to put up a billboard in the City, an application form must be completed to kick start the process.

This application is pre-assessed to see if the position applied for is available and if it is within the required distance from the intersection, road signs, residential area or any other approved visible billboard within the same vicinity.

An on-site inspection is done to validate the information provided on the application form and a report is summited to the central committee.

If the committee is satisfied, it will forward the application to the Outdoor Advertising Technical Committee. This committee is made up of members from Outdoor Advertising Division of the City’s Planning, Real Estate and Legal departments.

When all committees are satisfied, the application is signed off and forward to the Outdoor Management Committee, which is made up of heads of departments for City Planning, Legal, Real Estate and Roads and Storm Water for approval. Once done the Real Estate Department will draw up a lease agreement.
