OR Tambo Online Debates 2020
For the first time, the City will hold an online OR Tambo Debates programme during October month, which is held annually to celebrate the legacy of OR and Adelaide Tambo.
This year the debates will be online to comply with the new social changes and government regulations brought on by Covid-19. This is also in line with the City of Ekurhuleni as a digital city.
Unlike previous years, the target group is the unemployed youth of the City. It is assumed that these participants have no or little experience in debating or public speaking. Therefore, a workshop will be held before on 19 and 20 October 2020.
Format of the Debates
Preliminary sessions of the debates will be working groups on 21 and 22 October. Participants will be divided into different working groups with a particular task at hand. The task being to come up with adequate and implementable solutions to problems faced in their communities, these will be influenced by this year’s theme – Drawing on OR Tambo’s legacy to help fight global pandemics of Covid-19 and social injustices.
The final event will be hosted at the council chamber in the form of panel discussions where issues affecting the participants in their communities are to be debated. This happens on 23 October and winners will be announced.
