
REGISTER FOR INDIGENT RELIEF PROGRAMME
The City encourages households that cannot afford to pay for basic services such as sanitation, water, refuse removal, and electricity to register for the City’s indigent relief programme to qualify for rebates.
Indigent relief can be appliedfor at your nearest Customer Care Centre (CCC) by a household whose combined monthly income is less than the equivalent of two monthly minimum wages, based on a domestic worker’s wage.
To benefit from the indigent relief programme, the beneficiary must be deemed indigent and registered with the City as an indigent.
Who qualifies for the indigent relief programme:
- Must be a resident in the City of Ekurhuleni.
- Be over the age of 18 years, this includes financially dependent minors of the applicant.
- Be a South African citizen or in possession of a permanent residence certificate.
- Combined monthly household income be less than two monthly minimum wages, based on a domestic worker wage (R8 134.40), or as determined by the Minister of Employment and Labour from time to time.
How to apply:
Visit an indigent office at your nearest Customer Care Centre with the following documents:
- ID copy of the applicant and spouse where applicable;
- ID/birth certificate copies of dependents who live on the property;
- Latest municipal account statement; and
- Proof of income (SASSA pension statement for pensioners or three-month bank statement/ letter of employment for employed applicants), lack of income (affidavits), or registration as a full-time student.
