Unauthorised Building and Renovations Strain the City’s Power Supply Grid
The unauthorised building of properties, including backrooms, not in line with City’s spatial plan puts strain on the electricity grid, leading to damage to the supply infrastructure and outages.
This is because the City allocates energy capacity based on the City’s spatial development plan for a specific area. The plan determines the number of the properties and the type of zoning of the area, including the energy capacity allocation.
Renovations, especially when they change the occupancy number for the property, increase the electricity consumption. This demands the relevant infrastructure to be upgraded to meet the new energy demand.
The City encourages residents to submit building plans before starting to build or renovate as required by the City’s land use scheme.
Building plans should be submitted to the City Planning Department for necessary approval or variation.
