Reading a book is at your fingertips with the virtual library services available to all through a partnership between the City and the Gauteng Provincial Government.

The virtual library allows readers to borrow e-books to read on their computers and digital services for up to 14 days. This virtual library initiative is to encourage a culture of reading and to provide convenient access to books at any given time. Readers are also allowed and encouraged to recommend titles or books that are not on the virtual library platform so they can be added.

Once the 14 days expires the book automatically returns itself to the virtual library shelf for others to read.

How to register for the service:

  • Send an email for membership activation to overdrive@gauteng.gov.za
  • Once you have received your membership number, log on to Gauteng.overdrive.com to access audio and e-books.
  • To access books on your mobile phone, download Libby App and select Gauteng Provincial Government and immediately books will be stored on your gadget shelf for 14 days.
