What is Required When Registering New Property Account in Ekurhuleni
When registering your newly acquired property with the City make sure you have all the necessary documentation to avoid being turned away.
The following is needed when going into an agreement with the City for services:
– For a household / business account
- Street address
- Stand number
- Meter number
- Owner or tenant (to apply deposit tariff)
Documentation needed:
– Household
- Owner ID must be provided
- Proof of ownership eg deed of transfer
- Electricity compliance certificate
– Tenant
- A legal lease agreement is needed when a tenant of a property opens a service account with the City.
- Written permission from owner/agent to supply service to the tenant.
– Third party
Not able to open in person?
When a consumer is unable to apply for services in person, a letter of authorisation is needed from the consumer, giving a third party permission to sign the agreement for services on his/her behalf. A copy of the consumer’s ID must be attached to the letter and the third party must also provide his/her own ID.
– Business: Owner
- Registration document of company and ID of responsible person
- Proof of ownership eg deeds of transfer

- Registration document of company and ID of responsible person
