Community Safety MMC Mmoko Praises Police for Rounding Up Highly Wanted Suspects
The Joint Tactical Operation team comprising Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Specialised Task Team and SAPS Flying Squad, among other role players, arrested yet another suspect on the most wanted list and possible gang leader.
The suspect’s arrest on Thursday, 26 November, follows another operation that led to the rescue of two women suspected to have been kidnapped and the discovery of a large amount of illicit substance in Bedfordview last week.
Mayoral Committee Member for Community Safety, Cllr Pheladi Mmoko, saluted the team for working around the clock to nab the men linked to the likes of attempted murder, drug dealing, kidnapping and torture.
This is the third largest break through arrest by the police in Ekurhuleni in one month.
On Saturday, 21 November, another main suspect was arrested together with four suspects in Elsburg.
“This gang has been terrorising the residents of Ekurhuleni and surrounding areas. This is one of the best ways to show women that during and beyond the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, the City of Ekurhuleni will fight for their safety. It took thorough investigation, hard work and working together with other stakeholders for these arrests to happen. More charges are expected to be added to the charge sheet of these suspects. More arrests cannot be ruled out,” said MMC Mmoko.
The suspects will appear in court soon.
