Ekurhuleni Partners With Danone SA to Tackle Waste and Pollution Crisis
The City of Ekurhuleni has collaborated with Danone Southern Africa to combat the rampant rise in waste and pollution in and around Ekurhuleni communities.
Headed by Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment Resources and Waste Management Services, Alderman Makhosazana Mabaso, the City has embarked on a series of Cleaning and Greening activations throughout the wards in the greater Ekurhuleni area.
The campaign was launched on 9 October and will conclude the series of events on 11 December 2020.
On 13 November, Danone SA with the support of its stakeholders and business partners will join the City of Ekurhuleni and the KwaThema community for one such activation.
“The City’s partnership with Danone SA will be entrenched with working together with communities in taking care of their environment thus attracting investment and promoting local economy,” said Alderman Mabaso.
Through this initiative, the two organisations intend to join hands with Boksburg and surrounding communities, business partners, stakeholders and government entities to help make a difference in the environment.
Danone’s One Planet-One Health vision encompasses a quest to protect the planet and preserve it for future generations. It is one that aligns with government’s Good Green Deeds campaign.
“At Danone we believe that the health of the planet and the health of people are interconnected. It is therefore crucial that we take care of our planet, preserve its resources and take responsibility to renew it. The Danone manufacturing plant is based in the City of Ekurhuleni and thus the company has focussed its efforts to clean this community.
“Our partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni is not only an inspiring symbol of private-public partnerships but a tangible benefit to communities. We look forward to jointly growing and sustaining this valuable partnership,” said Hendrik Born, Managing Director of Danone Southern Africa.
