Gender Based Violence Fight Gets a Boost

The fight against gender-based violence in Ekurhuleni got a short in the arm when Gauteng Department of Community Safety handed over vehicles dedicated to fight gender based violence to Victim Empowerment Centres based at police stations in Gauteng.

Head of the directorate for Women, Children and People with disability Directorate Lindiwe Khonjelwayo said Thembisa victim empowerment centre received one of the vehicles as Thembisa police station is among the top three police stations in Gauteng that reported highest number of sexual offences-related crimes.

“The new vehicles will ensure victims are served timeously. This also shows that when all spheres of government work cooperatively, the gender based violence may be defeated,” Khonjelwayo said.

The cars will help officials to visit victims at their homes and take them to hospitals when there is a need.

The ceremony was held at Thembisa South police station on Thursday, 10 December 2020.
