Speak Out Against Gender-Based Violence

The City of Ekurhuleni condemns any form of violence against women and children and calls out to its residents to work together with victims to get justice.

The country will observe the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children from 25 November to 10 December.

“An alarmingly increased number of reported cases of violence against women and children were reported during the tougher COVID-19 restrictions that compelled many to stay at home to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Whilst the fight against gender based violence is a 365-day-a-year battle, during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children we urge our residents to be the voice for the voiceless and break the silence,” said the MMC for Health and Social Development Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi.

The City of Ekurhuleni has planned an array of activities to raise awareness. These include raids at hijacked buildings, and visits to courts in support of victims. Discussions will also be held by the Ekurhuleni’s Men’s Forum on what more can be done to break the cycle of abuse.
