Unauthorised Consumption of Municipal Water May Lead To Arrests
Municipal water structures which include water meters, fire hydrants, water tanks and reservoirs are municipal properties. Their purpose is so the municipality can supply reliable clean and quality water to its communities.
Abuse of these resources is a disservice by those involved in such acts to themselves and others in the City. Anyone caught tampering will be in hot water and may face a steep fine or arrest, or both.
Drainage systems
Equally, drainage pipes and manholes are the property of the municipality. The following is not allowed:
- To cover municipal drainage systems;
- To cover a manhole;
- To build or erect a permanent structure of any kind on top of municipal servitudes.
All buildings or permanent structures to be built on land that falls within the jurisdiction of the municipality must first be approved by the City Planning Department. The plans for such structures can be taken to any of the offices around the City at all customer care centres.
Non-compliance may lead to demolition or tearing down of a building.
