City of Ekurhuleni reaffirms its Commitment to Transparency as SIU Investigation Commences

Today, 24th October 2024, the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, officially signed a Letter of Engagement with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU). This engagement facilitates the commencement of an investigation into allegations of maladministration and other irregular activities within the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

The investigation, as outlined in Proclamation No. 195 of 2024, focuses on incidents of improper conduct, and the potential misuse of public funds and resources. The scope includes examining transactions and activities relating to transfers of vacant stands owned by the Municipality in the Villa Liza township, in Boksburg.

This investigation was initiated at the City’s request, demonstrating our commitment to good governance. City Manager, Dr Mashazi, highlighted the municipality’s proactive stance, stating,

“The City of Ekurhuleni requested the Special Investigating Unit to conduct this investigation to ensure accountability and transparency in our operations. We are committed to uncovering the truth and addressing any irregularities that may have occurred, for the benefit of our residents and all our stakeholders.”

As part of this collaboration, the City of Ekurhuleni is fully committed to supporting the SIU throughout this investigation. The city will provide all necessary assistance to ensure a thorough and transparent process.
