City to Add to Measures for Revenue Collection and Loss

The City of Ekurhuleni has set eyes on implementing measures to maximise revenue collection and to stop revenue losses.

These measure include conducting audits to identify revenue leakages in property rates, water, energy and real estate, as well as audits on new developments to recover revenue. Some of the measure will be to lobby grants for revenue generating projects and implement systems which can assist to save water and energy.

The focus on innovative ways to recover losses and improve revenue collection comes on the heel of a webinar hosted by Executive Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina with the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Economic Development and Finance, Cllr Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, in partnership with Business Day Television.

During the session, MMC Xhakaza indicated that most challenges in relation to current revenue collection measures are experienced in Eskom-supplied areas wherein credit control measures through disconnections are near impossible, he also said that high water leaks are also a problem.
