It is with great sadness that the City announces the passing Cllr Nomsa Phakathi (ward 63). A special council meeting was held on 19 January where a civic funeral for Cllr Phakathi, in line with council’s funeral policy, was declared.
A humble and hardworking community leader with a long history in public service, Cllr Phakathi continued to show her commitment by serving in Oversight committees, including Human Settlements and Economic Development during her tenure. She will be remembered for her resilient nature and belief in serving her community diligently.
“Our hearts are heavy with sadness as we mourn the loss of one of our own. A colleague, a mother and a servant to her community, who was wholly committed to her work. May her family, friends, her ward – community at large, and her political home, the African National Congress find peace and comfort during this difficult time,” said Speaker of Council Patricia Kumalo during the council sitting.
The memorial service and funeral proceedings will observe current Disaster Management Act regulations (Adjusted Level 3).
