Alleged Hijacker Arrested, Vehicle Recovered

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested an alleged hijacker after a high-speed chase that ended in Sandton on Saturday, 8 May.

The EMPD freeway patrol officers at Senderwood noticed and joined the chase where a motor vehicle tracking company was in hot pursuit of a silver BMW on the N3 freeway northbound.

According to EMDP Spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the pursued vehicle with four male occupants, escorted by a white Ford Ranger double cab, took the Marlboro off-ramp and stopped at the corner of Alice and 5th roads where three of the suspects climbed out and quickly hopped into the moving Ford Ranger.

The remaining occupant of the BMW, the driver, tried to outrun the EMPD officers, but failed.

“On closer inspection it was found that the silver BMW 220i was reported hijacked earlier in Vanderbijlpark in Sebokeng, and some of the victim’s belongings were taken. Amongst items uncovered in the vehicle was an expensive wrist watch and a pair of gloves,” said Mokheseng.

The handcuffed suspect, facing charges of possession of robbed/hijacked motor vehicle and failing to stop when instructed by police officials was detained at Sandton police station. He will appear court soon.
