CITY INTRODUCES NEW COMMUNITY MARSHALS
The City of Ekurhuleni welcomed 100 Community Safety Marshals in Germiston today.
The marshals are contracted to the city from 1st March 2025 to 30th June 2025 and work with communities to curb gender-based violence, substance abuse, and enhance school safety among other key roles. They will also be expected to help with data collection on safety issues.
Addressing the marshals, MMC for Community Safety, Cllr Sizakele Masuku said: “Through this programme, the city and residents will work together to root out crime and make their neighbourhoods safe. We believe that safer communities attract investment and growth, creating jobs and eliminating poverty.
“The war against crime requires teamwork and it is a societal problem. As a city we shall continue try different strategies in the fight against lawlessness and this is one such intervention.”
Cllr Masuku said another benefit for the marshals is that when their term ends, they would have acquired skills that they can use in future.
“The marshals will be trained on data collection and other skills that will give them more opportunities to broaden their careers in community safety and law enforcement going forward,” she concluded.
