Couple Arrested in Reported Stolen Vehicle Case

EMPD arrest couple 1A couple found driving a white Toyota Yaris reported stolen was booked by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) at the Germiston Police Station on Monday, 19 October.

Zig-zagging on Johann Rissik Road, the vehicle caught the attention of the EMPD officers who were patrolling the road. Officers stopped and searched the vehicle.

According to EMPD Acting Spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the 31-year-old male driver and a female passenger (34) were handcuffed after officers discovered that the number plate displayed did not correspond with the licence disc.

Mokheseng added that further investigation revealed that the five-door vehicle was reported stolen in Germiston in December 2018.

He adds that the vehicle was impounded and taken to Van Ryn’s Deep (Benoni SAPS yard) for safekeeping.

The duo face a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate Court soon.
