EKURHULENI METRO POLICE UNLEASHES NEW FLEET IN TIME FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON
KEMPTON PARK – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department has received a new fleet of 68 vehicles as the festive season nears.
The vehicles comprising of 50 VW Polos, 10 GTIs and eight (8) VW motorbikes will enhance crime and traffic policing productivity in and around the City of Ekurhuleni. The fleet will enable metro police officers to respond speedily and efficiently to crime scenes and complaints by members of the public.
“This intervention would not have come at a better time considering that crime levels increase during the festive season. As the EMPD we have already devised a plan to utilize them optimally so that our residents can have a safer festive season and beyond,” said Community Safety MMC Ald Sizakele Masuku. “It is imperative that police have the necessary resources to effectively tackle lawlessness in the region.”
Ald Masuku has appealed to members of the public to be vigilant during this festive season as criminals will be on the prowl. She further encouraged communities to report any abuse of EMPD vehicles ‘because these are there for the purposes of law enforcement and nothing else’.
The new fleet is already in service in various parts of the region.
