EMPD EMPOWERS TAXI INDUSTRY THROUGH ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS – IN THEMBISA AREA
THEMBISA_On the morning of Saturday, 14 January the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Social Crime Prevention Unit officers conducted an operation aimed at road safety awareness, as part of their Back to School campaign, at a taxi rank in Thembisa.
The objective of the operation was to ensure compliance with the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996), checking for vehicle and driver fitness, valid vehicle licensing, overloading as well as valid permits. The EMPD officers also explained various measures drivers can take to reduce accidents/crashes on the roads by adhering to rules and regulations of the road.
Officers are visited Temong section to educate the children about the importance of safety, as well as reporting acts of bullying, child neglect and abuse as they return to school.
This is an ongoing operation, and is rolled out across the City.
