EMPD LAUNCHES WALL OF REMEMBRANCE FOR FALLEN HEROES

A memorial wall, remembering officers who paid the highest price whilst performing their duties, was unveiled by the Executive Mayor, Alderman Tania Campbell, on 24 February 2023.

The unveiling of the memorial wall was attended by the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Safety Cllr Khuthatshelo Rasilingwane, Oversight Committee members, colleagues, and chiefs of police from different metros.

“The Wall of Remembrance was created as a means to give recognition to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Officers (EMPD) and the plight of their loved ones who must cope with the emotional and practical consequences of these tragic events,” said the Municipal Police Commissioner, Mr. IJ Mapiyeye.

The Executive Mayor mentioned that the unveiling was a step closer to ensuring that the memorial wall will form part of the annual calendar of events annually. The goal is to host wreath-laying ceremonies and offer family members and colleagues the opportunity to reflect on and honour the fallen heroes.
