Five Arrested for Public Violence
Five people were arrested by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department for allegedly obstructing a public road in Vosloorus on Sunday, 4 October.
This was in response to a protest action staged at the intersection of Khoza Street and Roets Drive. A group of people were found stoning approaching police vehicles, barricading the roadway using rubble, rocks and burning tyres. Five suspects were apprehended as the group fled.
Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Safety Cllr Pheladi Mmoko said the country’s constitution supports citizens of the country to peacefully protest within the legal framework, not to violently or unreasonably impact the rights of other residents.
The suspects face charges of public violence.
